Oasis was designed as a living space for two distinct families sharing a single 60’x120’ plot. The first of my two families consists of two married women; Maya, 35, and Sarah 37, who both identify as bisexual, and Antonio, their one seven-year-old son, who is the biological child of Maya from a previous marriage. Maya and Antonio are both Hispanic, while Sarah is Caucasian. As both mothers work from home, it is important for them to have a home office space. They have two cats. Additionally, they enjoy having a play area for Antonio, separate from his room. This play area will also sometimes function as a family game room. The second of my two families consists of a heterosexual couple. The woman, Louisa, is Deaf, Caucasian, and aged 24. The man, Justin, is hearing, Mexican, and aged 23. The man’s mother, Aida, and younger brother, Marc, also live with the couple; she is 52 years old, and he is ten years old. They have one dog and one cat. Aida enjoys sewing and other handicrafts and requires a space to sew and store her supplies. Additionally, having dinner together is very important to this family, so they will require an adequately sized dining room. Both families are very familiar with each other. Sarah and Louisa have been friends since their early childhood, and their two families have become very close. Antonio and Marc have known each other since Antonio was two and Marc was five, and are as close as brothers. Both families appreciate having a large shared space where the children can play, and where the families can interact and hold activities like birthday parties, barbeques, and outdoor games.

A few examples of the plan drawing progression. Notable changes include: the modification of room placement, the interaction with the solid spaces (represented by the dark grey poche), and the addition of connecting corridors.
